At Takuwa, we make a conscious effort every day through our work to broaden our field of view and deepen our thinking, shifting from the mindset of “as long as it’s good for me” to “what can I do to make things better for those around me?”
Fighting doesn’t lead to real solutions. Solutions cannot be found without considering others and their happiness. In the end, true happiness comes from making others happy.
Takuwa is a manufacturer specializing in disaster countermeasures.
We produce sensors that monitor and detect changes in water levels of rivers or the occurrence of sediment disasters. These sensors are installed at potentially hazardous locations throughout Japan, contributing to the country’s disaster prevention and disaster mitigation efforts. We help protect lives and property, making a positive social impact through these actions.
Although we are a manufacturer, we also respond to emergencies. When storms, flood damage, or sediment disasters occur, and the government requests assistance, our employees are prepared to head to the site at any time, 365 days a year.
By continuing this work as our core business for over 50 years, we have earned a deep trust from national and local governments.
Taking all of this into account, we describe Takuwa as a company that serves the public good.
In this context, “public good” means that Takuwa does not belong to any specific individual or shareholder, but rather to society as a whole.
Water level gauges are installed in class A rivers managed by the national government and class B rivers managed by prefectural governments. There are approximately 14,000 class A rivers across Japan. There are approximately 7,000 class B rivers across Japan. These rivers currently have approx. 5,000 water level observation stations installed to measure the water level. Approx. 60% of the water level gauges installed at these observation stations are manufactured by Takuwa.
*Takuwa’s products also played an important role in the field during the Noto Earthquake in January 2024. Even now, Takuwa’s sensors are fulfilling their role across Japan, helping to protect the lives and property of local residents by minimizing damage from floods and sediment disasters.
Takuwa has been installing water level gauges across Japan for the past 50 years. If, for some reason, Takuwa could not perform maintenance or emergency response for these devices, what impact would that have on Japan? A crucial part of Japan’s emergency evacuation system would collapse. In other words, it would not be an overstatement to say that Takuwa’s business has become an integral part of society and exists for the benefit of society as a whole. When I say that Takuwa is a company that serves the public good, I mean it in recognition of the company’s high level of contribution to society.
When I say Takuwa serves the public good, my intention is not to brag about our greatness. It is not something trivial or superficial. That is why the work we do at Takuwa comes with great responsibility.
To help protect the lives and property of local residents, Takuwa broadly provides sensors to society. We are a company entrusted with that level of responsibility and committed to fulfilling it.
Now, if the company you work for is regarded as serving the public good, it must also act in a manner worthy of that trust. That means each and every employee at Takuwa must carry themselves with integrity and be part of a team that society can be proud of. Every employee at Takuwa approaches their work each day with pride, guided by a strong sense of mission and responsibility. They continually strive to grow, aiming to be individuals worthy of society’s trust.
