We must always remember that all forms of business or corporate activity by humans on this planet will by
definition have some form of impact on the environment. Conservation and protection of the environment
is one of our key management objectives at Takuwa.
Our efficient environmental management system
(EMS) was recognized with ISO 14001 accreditation (2015 version) in November 2016.
Under the EMS, all
environmental programs and initiatives are subject to ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement via
the PDCA cycle, in line with the Environmental Principles document that comprises an environmental
declaration, a philosophy statement, and a set of guiding principles on the environment.
In a world of plentiful water resources, with free and fair access for all, there will no longer be
disputes or conflicts over water supplies, and people will be able to live their lives peacefully. This
in turn will encourage greater consideration for others, along with greater respect for the environment
and human rights, creating a world where peoples of all races and nationalities can thrive. Social
systems in which all live in peace and harmony cannot exist without free access to water. Social systems
with plentiful water resources will last for eternity. This is the true meaning of sustainability.
In
order to create a truly sustainable world, Takuwa is committed to sustainability management practices
centered on the ESG principles.
At Takuwa, we are always seeking to deepen our understanding of water in our quest to preserve our planet for future generations.
Major global challenges in recent times include energy and food shortages associated with rapid population growth as well as conflicts over competition for limited resources, particularly water and minerals.
Former Vice President of the World Bank Ismail Serageldin famously predicted that “if the wars of this century were fought over oil, the wars of the next century will be fought over water.”
Sure enough, all over the world we are seeing droughts linked to climate change that have led to an ongoing crisis of conflicts over water.
Takuwa offers a range of solutions to help address water shortages around the world.
Our company has steadily grown over the years by developing effective solutions for social challenges, based on our philosophy of deepening our understanding of water and reverting to a more altruistic relationship with water. Our founding commitment to addressing social challenges remains unchanged to this day.
In a world of plentiful water supplies, there would be no more conflict over access to water and peace would return. People would feel safe and secure, celebrating their differences, respecting nature and the rights of others, and free to live their lives as they wish. The world would be truly sustainable.
To this end, Takuwa is committed to generating value for a sustainable world, operating in a responsible manner, and promoting the endeavors of our employees, based on our philosophy of better understanding of water and learning to coexist with water.
Drawing inspiration from our founders, we see it as our mission to actively address social challenges and make a meaningful contribution to building a better world.
Takuwa supplies a range of products and systems that we have designed through our knowledge and understanding of water. In this way, we play an important role in environmental conservation while also helping to address major social challenges in order to achieve desirable outcomes. By managing our organization well and achieving optimum performance, we can assist in the transition to a sustainable future, one where we coexist in harmony with water by continually recycling and reusing water, and where people can live secure and peaceful lives.
It is no coincidence that the four great ancient civilizations of the world were founded near mighty rivers. Water is the foundational source of the three basic human needs: food, clothing and shelter. Water represents stability and security. With secure access to water to support life, civilizations are born and culture flourishes.
Our scientific approach at Takuwa aligns with the beliefs of Greek philosopher Thales, who stated that water was the fundamental principle underlying all things.
Water is indeed the origin of all things in nature. Our world as we know it simply would not exist without water. Human endeavor and advancement are only possible when we have access to water. This is why Takuwa is committed to conserving our precious water resources and the environment more broadly, so that humankind can always enjoy access to water.
A society is any collective of people, large or small. Every society is founded on access to water, the source of life itself. So if there is a major social challenge that hinders access to water, the society itself will collapse. But who should take on such challenges to ensure that we can all get the water that we need? Companies are one of the key organizational elements in society, a direct expression of human endeavor. No company can survive without water, let alone function effectively or achieve its goals, however grand those goals may be. For example, consider the Industrial Revolution. During the Industrial Revolution, water provided the foundation for the industrial activity that transformed society.
Companies exist to perform industrial activity that provides value to society, and in turn ensure their own survival. Companies address needs in society that enable it to survive and flourish, and in doing so ensure their own continued existence. At Takuwa, we want to contribute to social advancement and quality of life. To do this, we need to ensure that we as a company continue to grow and prosper.
For a company to be able to justify its existence in the world, it needs to clearly articulate its values and objectives. It should display humility and a positive, can-do mindset. It should actively listen to the views and opinions of external voices and third parties, and should never be self-righteous or judgmental.
At Takuwa, we will never put self-interest first, or disregard the needs and aspirations of others. Our very existence is predicated on altruism. As part of the Takuwa mission to help create a more sustainable world, the Board of Directors, comprising both internal and external directors, oversees the company’s work in tackling social and environmental challenges and ensures that we are operating in the true spirit of altruism. The Board is also closely involved in decision-making processes.
At Takuwa, we are committed to achieving the transition to a sustainable world, putting the ESG principles at the center of our corporate activities. To this end, the ESG Committee, with the President as chair, was set up in 2024 to oversee our work on materialities and other key ESG areas.
The ESG Committee is charged with setting out the company’s basic ESG policies; ensuring that our business plans and management strategies are properly aligned with the ESG policies; overseeing action items, materialities and other initiatives to address social challenges; and providing reports and proposals to the Board of Directors.
The ESG Committee is chaired by the President and answers to the Board of Directors. It is charged with overseeing the implementation of ESG principles throughout the organization. To this end, the Committee liaises with three departments attached to the President’s Office — the Business Development Headquarter, the Technical Information Management Office, and the Safety and Health Promotion Office — as well as the Sales Management Headquarters, the Technology Management Headquarters, the Technology Innovation Center, the ISO Office and the General Affairs Division. The Committee also defines the ESG targets and sets up monitoring frameworks to track their progress, and provides periodical reports and assessments.
