By assessing your own capabilities, independently identifying problems, formulating hypotheses, and using the PDCA cycle to test them, you work toward delivering results by pursuing the optimal solutions. At Takuwa, we place great importance on the flow of this entire process. We value employees who not only reflect on whether the process was as good as the result when things go well, but also take the time to evaluate and learn from the aspects of the process that led to poor results.
At Takuwa, annual salary raises are based on evaluations like these. Simply repeating the same tasks day after day will not result in a salary raise. At Takuwa, salary is not something you simply “wait” to be deposited into your account. It is something you “earn” by producing results so compelling that they naturally command recognition from the company.
We encourage every employee to take charge of their own life and become the protagonist of their own story.
This is because we want everyone working at Takuwa to live a happy and fulfilling life.
When you let others decide what you do, or get carried along by circumstances that keep you from doing what you truly want, living each day complaining “this isn’t how I want it,” you end up living a life that does not feel like your own. That makes your one and only life less fulfilling. (Of course, there are people who have valid reasons for not being able to choose otherwise. I am not saying this applies equally to them.) Becoming the protagonist of your own life means designing your life for yourself and fully enjoying it. At Takuwa, we have incorporated systems into everyday work that enable employees to develop essential skills for designing their own lives, such as the ability to identify problems, think logically, apply the PDCA cycle, and conduct risk assessments. I call these skills the “power to survive.” For example, logical thinking skills are intended to develop the habit of thinking independently and expressing your ideas clearly in your own words.
At Takuwa, for instance, a report written after attending an exhibition that ends with something like "I will apply this to future work" is not sufficient and needs to be rewritten. Such phrase is not limited to exhibitions. It is a convenient expression that can be used repeatedly in reports for training, seminars, or any other occasions. However, if you keep using this phrase every time just because it is convenient, there is a dangerous trap where you gradually lose the ability to think for yourself. In such cases, the purpose of attending the exhibition becomes information collection, and “information collection” and “applying it to future work” almost go hand in hand. Why is it so hard to improve critical thinking skills? When the goal of information collection is vague and lacks specificity, the outcome tends to be equally unclear. As a result, reports often end with vague conclusions such as “I will apply this to my future work.”
In this case, if the purpose is something specific like, “The development of the product currently in progress has stalled, so I am attending this exhibition to talk to exhibitors and see if their technology can help solve the issue,” and then, after actually going there, you consult with the exhibitors and find a possible solution, even arranging a meeting on the spot with them, that would be a result matching the purpose and make for a meaningful report. On the other hand, even if the problem isn’t solved, clearly stating “It couldn’t be solved” still qualifies as a valid outcome, allowing you to move forward and explore other options. Without developing logical thinking skills, you risk repeating ineffective actions again and again, making growth impossible. Because your efforts go unnoticed, you may end up blaming others, like your supervisors, for not appreciating you. When there are many people like this in a company, neither they nor the company can grow, and in the end, everyone ends up unhappy.
But there is no need to worry. At Takuwa, vague approaches like this are not accepted. By fully committing to your work, you naturally develop logical thinking skills. As a result, you will achieve more success at work and feel your skills improving, which builds your confidence and motivates you to take on tasks proactively.
For example, you start to see results by explaining your ideas or giving presentations in important meetings and discussions with clients. This makes work more enjoyable, encouraging you to create your opportunities, produce results, and build a positive circulation of growth. As people develop new skills and expand the area of their work, they begin to want to test their abilities in different environments.
That is when the real opportunity begins. You only live once. Leave Takuwa in search of a new environment. Step into new opportunities in Japan or abroad. Unlock your full potential, make a big impact, and pursue your goals to the fullest wherever you choose to go.
I often tell our employees, “If you can only do one thing in today’s world, you should feel concerned..” Work hard at Takuwa to build your “power to survive,” boost your market value, and become someone who can succeed anywhere in the world.
This is what it means to design your own life and live as the protagonist in it.
